CHANDEL: Echoing the national call of “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein”, Chandel district on Saturday celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with great enthusiasm through a ” Cycling for Fitness & Unity” rally.
The event, part of the Nationwide Celebration of Sports, Spirit & Unity under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, was held on the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat.”
The programme was jointly organised by MyBharat Chandel, Department of Physical Education & Sports, South East Manipur College (SEMCO) & United College, Chandel, NSS Unit & IQAC of SEMCO and United College, in collaboration with Kapaam Development Club (KDC) and Kapaam Cycling Club (KCC).

The rally was flagged off by Dr. Steven Chara, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education and Sports, SEMCO, from Kapaam (Komlathabi) and culminated at Chandel Christian, with cyclists carrying the message of healthy living, sportsmanship and national unity.
Programme Officers of the NSS Units of SEMCO and United College, along with students, NSS volunteers, youth club members and cycling enthusiasts, took part in the rally, pedalling together to promote fitness and community spirit.
As a gesture of appreciation and to encourage fitness culture, every cyclist who participated the rally was felicitated with a token medal. The initiative aimed at promoting sports, fitness, healthy living, youth participation and community engagement, marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand in a befitting manner.
