UKHRUL: The National People’s Party (NPP), Manipur, has strongly condemned the ambush along the Imphal-Tamei (IT) Road between Makui Asang and Thanamba Naga villages on August 27, calling it a “horrific and unprovoked” attack that left four Naga civilians dead and others critically injured.
In a statement, the NPP Manipur unit described the killings as a cowardly act of violence, noting that those who lost their lives included an educator, village leaders, and youth representatives. The party extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with the injured and the wider communities affected by the tragedy.

“The targeted attack on unarmed citizens travelling along a vital civilian lifeline is an egregious violation of basic human rights, an assault on peace and an unpardonable act of terror aimed at destabilizing the region,” the party stated.
The NPP has urged the Government of Manipur and the Ministry of Home Affairs to move swiftly and without compromise to identify, arrest, and prosecute everyone involved in the killings, including any armed groups responsible.
At the same time, the party appealed for calm, calling on civil society groups, regional communities, and other stakeholders to exercise restraint, maintain public order, and let legal processes take their course. It cautioned against allowing further violence to derail the pursuit of justice and peace in the region.
