CHANDEL: The new executive members of the Anal Lenruwl Tangpi – General Headquarters (ALT-GHQs) for the tenure 2026-29 were elected on Tuesday with Wango Lawrence Anal, former vice president of the union, elected as the new president.
In a high-octane election held at the Chamdil Town Hall in Panchai, Chandel, Wng. Lawrence defeated Kt. Zechariah, former secretary of the union, by 131-109 votes. During the same election, St. Stelly defeated Ts. Konia by 145-89 votes.
About 130 youth clubs voted in the election with a voting right of two votes each along with the five branches of the ALT. The city branches such as ALT Imphal, Bangalore, Delhi were granted one vote each.

Meanwhile, other executive members of the ALT GHQs, namely general secretary (Wl. Jonah Ningtung), assistant general secretary (Sp. Hringmingam), secretary education (Callingson Wangshol) and secretary, publicity and information (Sr. Machangam) were elected uncontested. The election commissioners have been given the responsibility to fill the vacant posts of vice president, social and culture secretary and sports secretary.
The Oath Taking was administered by Sr. Andria Anal, Returning Officer, Election Commission while Rd. Kanthung, former ALT president prayed and blessed them; ANTA president Ps. Monihring gave them the certificates.
And with their tenure coming to an end, Bd. Ningwar Anal, president of ALT-GHQs for 2023-26 handed over the files and documents to the new president.

The election process, which began around 11:00 AM, went into late evening ending around 7:00 PM.
Earlier, during a short assembly session of the ALT GHQs, the constitution of the student body was officially released by Hb. Ruwnghnem, Asst. Professor (Retd) and also the Speaker of the Anal Naga Tangpi (ANTA).
He said the constitution was a guideline for the students and it should be their guiding force.
Convenor of the drafting committee, Sng. Phamhring also expressed gratitude to all those involved in the redrafting of the constitution.
