DGP Mukesh Singh Inaugurates Chandel District Cyber Cell, Assures Stronger Security Measures

CHANDEL, June 29: The Director General of Police (DGP) Manipur, Mukesh Singh, accompanied by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, paid his maiden official visit to Chandel district on Monday, where he inaugurated the newly established Cyber Cell of the district police.

The visiting officers were accorded a warm reception by Chandel Police under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Tyagi.

In a demonstration of unity and cooperation between the community and law enforcement agencies, the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO), led by its president Dilbung Thamdok, along with its constituent tribal bodies—including BAP (Moyon), SUR (Monsang), ANTA (Anal), CLAM (Chothe), TAR (Tarao), Maring (MUA) and LNKK (Lamkang)—joined hands with the Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC), the Naga Women’s Union Chandel (NWUC) and their constituent units, along with representatives from Anallon Chiefs’ Association (ALCA), to felicitate the DGP and ADGP at the conference hall of the Superintendent of Police, Chandel.

During an interaction with civil society organisations (CSOs), the DGP lauded the significant role played by various community organisations in preserving peace, communal harmony, and stability during the challenging situation prevailing in Manipur. He acknowledged the constructive partnership between the police and the public, describing it as an essential factor in maintaining law and order in the district.

Representatives of the CSOs submitted memorandums highlighting key security concerns and the prevailing law and order situation in the district. They also briefed the DGP on the close coordination between the district police and local communities.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP encouraged community leaders to motivate and guide the youth of Chandel to prepare for the upcoming Manipur Police recruitment drives and to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities. He assured the public that those responsible for the killing of six innocent Nagas at Konsakhul on May 13, 2026, would be brought to justice. He further assured that efforts would be made to establish additional police stations in the district to strengthen policing and improve public safety.

The DGP also commended Chandel Police for their sustained efforts in the seizure of illegal arms, confiscation of narcotic substances, conduct of drug awareness programmes, and for maintaining effective coordination with both the public and security forces.

As part of his visit, DGP Mukesh Singh also held a meeting with officials of the Assam Rifles, during which various issues relating to the security situation in Chandel district were discussed. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination and strengthening security measures in the region.
