All three goals came in an action packed first half as the Super Machans picked up all three points against Jamshedpur.
Chennaiyain FC attacked the game right from the word go and a flowing team move saw Anirudh Thapa hammer home an excellent team goal right in the first minute of the game. The Marina Machans dominated proceedings and looked to be well and truly running away with the game when Jamshedpur’s midfielder Isaac Vanmalsawma was penalised for nudging Chhangte inside the box. Esmael Goncalves stepped up and duly dispatched the spot kick to double Chennaiyain’s lead.
Nerijus Valskis, who took home the golden boot last season playing for Chennaiyain, ran out in different colours this time around and looked to inspire his new team to a comeback when he powered home a brilliant header in the 37th minute to half the deficit. That would, however, prove to be a false dawn as all the goal action ended in the first half and Chennaiyain FC went on to secure a convincing 2-1 victory.
