Chungreng Koren to Represent India, Manipur in ROAD TO UFC Semifinals

UKHRUL: Twenty-eight-year-old mixed martial arts fighter Chungreng Koren, popularly known as “The Indian Rhino,” is set to compete in the ROAD TO UFC semifinals in Shanghai, China, on August 28.

Koren will face Japan’s Ryo Tajima in the bantamweight division, with a victory taking him one step closer to earning a place in the UFC.

Hailing from Kamu Koireng Village in Manipur, Koren is a Koireng Naga who has dedicated over 15 years to his MMA journey. His rise has been marked by years of hard work and perseverance, culminating in his capture of the Matrix Fight Night Interim Bantamweight Championship.

Koren also won widespread admiration for his victory speech following his championship win on March 22, 2024 at the Noida Indoor Stadium when he appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for peace in his home state of Manipur.

Now representing India and Manipur on an international stage, Koren’s ROAD TO UFC semifinal bout has generated calls for people back home to extend their prayers, support and best wishes as he pursues his dream of making it to the UFC.

A victory in Shanghai would bring Koren one step closer to the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion.
