CHURACHANDPUR: The Lamka Academy League 2026 kicked off on Saturday at PLD turf ground, Thingkangphai Churachandpur district in Manipur.

The inaugural programme was graced by Social Worker and football enthusiast Joseph Thanggousuan as Chief Guest who kicked off the league in the presence of players, parents, and organising board members. The inaugural day witnessed four matches. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest told the youth to acknowledge and appreciate the opportunity as they have the means to excel which was a dream in the past, referring to the ground and sports infrastructures available nowadays. He also promised the organisers of all possible help in their efforts to organise the marathon football league a success.

Also speaking on the occasion, Lamka Academy Board director S Liankhosiam, in his keynote address, said that the league is being organised to further the talent of the youth. He also informed that the 18 football academies in the district include more than 18,000 football enthusiastic youth of the district. 

The inaugural programme ended with a vote of thanks by Lamka Acadamy Board secretary Ngul Kipgen who highlighted the do’s and don’ts during the competition.

Organised by the Lamka Academy Board, the league will continue for a period of three months with the participation of around 50 football teams from 18 football academies of the district.

The matches will be played every Saturday under four categories- under 10 years, under 13 years, 15 years, 18 years and 21 years. In the first month, the under10 years category will be played at turf ground while the other categories will be played at a full football ground.
