CHURACHANDPUR: As part of its community policing efforts, Churachandpur district police organised a drug awareness outreach programme at Misao Lhahvom village on Saturday under the theme “Kick Out Drugs – Play for Life.” The event, led by Women Inspector Florence N. Lengen, began at 10 am with an opening prayer by Upa (Retd.) T.C. Misao.
Welcoming the gathering, Hasby Haokip reminded villagers that the police are public servants dedicated to their safety. She said the community should not fear the uniform but work alongside the police, adding that the district police remain open and available to the public.
During the programme, Augustine J. Khongsai, speaking on behalf of the Superintendent of Police, handed over sports items—including a volleyball net, volleyball and football—to the local youth club. Ten study chairs were also presented to the Village Authority for use by students.
In his remarks, Khongsai said community cooperation is crucial in tackling the drug problem, which he noted has affected even young school-going children. He urged villagers to play an active role in helping the police curb the spread of drugs.
Lalminthang Misao, representing the village chief, spoke of the community’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and their continued efforts in rehabilitation and prevention. He also expressed gratitude to the district police for conducting the outreach in their village.
Around 100 villagers attended the event, along with personnel from Churachandpur Police Station and Women Police Station.
Sharing his experiences from the field, SI Letminlal Suantak stressed the importance of a positive and supportive home environment to keep children away from drugs. The programme concluded with a pledge to work together against drug abuse, followed by a closing prayer from Upa Ngamjang, Chief of Vengnomphai village.
