Churachandpur: 45 Acres of Poppy Cultivation Destroyed

CHURACHANDPUR: A combined team comprising of District Police Churachandpur; 129 bn CRPF, 1st IRB CCPur, 36 Assam Rifles, Executive Magistrate, Sangaikot, NAB and Forest Department/Churachandpur on Tuesday destroyed approximately 45 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at Haopi Mollen land jurisdiction under Sangaikot subdivision in Churachandpur district, Manipur, police said.

The combined team launched the destruction drive of illicit poppy cultivation from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm.

The illicit poppy cultivation was estimated to yield 225 kgs of opium, the police said.

The team also destroyed 150 kg of salt packets, five plastic jar fertilizer sprayers and a significant number of poppy plants with pods were seized in the presence of witnesses from the spot, the police said while adding that no arrest could be made as the cultivators were unknown. 

The seizure memo and seized poppy plants with pods were submitted to OC SKT PS for taking necessary legal action, police further said.
