Cleanliness Drive held at United College, Chandel; Ex-MLA calls for Proper Functioning of College

Chandel, October 2: As part of the National Cleanliness Day on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a social work/cleanliness drive was held at United College, Lambung in Chandel district on Thursday. The drive was held under the aegis of United College Management Committee, Faculty Members, Staff and Students.

Participated by about 1000 villagers from 12 villages of the area, the National Cleanliness Day was held under the theme “Non-violence and Truth in Daily Life”.

Talking about the social work, ex-MLA St. Victor Nunghlung and also convenor of the United College Management Committee said that the drive has been observed in view of Gandhi Jayanti.

The United College Management Committee along with faculty members, staff and students of the college have conducted this social work with the help of villages of the area, St. Victor Nunghlung said. “This is the lone and only college in the Chandel headquarters area and we want it to function properly,” he added.

He also said that initiatives are also being taken to make the college properly. We are imposing a strict and regular attendance for both students and staff members, he said. He also appealed to the parents and students to co-operate with the rules and make the initiative a success.

Established in 1980, United College, Lambung in Chandel district offers various courses both in science and arts streams. Moreover, a study centre for IGNOU has also been established.

The cleanliness drive was attended by villagers from neighbouring villages such as Lambung, Lamphoupasna, Modi, Panchai, Chandel Christian, Chengkhu, etc.

The staff and faculty members of the college also appreciated the initiative taken by the committee.
