Ukhrul, October 1: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has lauded “the launch of a housing initiative providing 1,000 safe and durable homes for underprivileged tribal families in Ukhrul district” of Manipur.

In a statement issued today, the NPF said implemented by the Manipur Development Authority (MDA) and HRDS India, a Kerala-based NGO focused on tribal welfare and low-cost housing, this project brings hope and dignity to families affected by hardship and poverty.

The NPF acknowledged Ram Muivah, the MLA of Ukhrul assembly constituency, “for his facilitative role in supporting this initiative and bridging the gap between the community and implementing agencies”.

The NPF then urged similar efforts be extended to other hill districts, including Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and parts of the Imphal valley, where ethnic conflicts have led to destruction of homes and displacement.

The NPF also called on the Governor of Manipur and the central administration to expedite the ‘Permanent Housing Scheme’ for families displaced by conflict, and ensure effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for affordable housing. “Coordinated action by the administration, local representatives, and civil society is essential to provide shelter to every deserving family”, the NPF added.
