CM Biren urges civil bodies to unite; says present govt would never compromise interests of Manipur for political gains

Imphal: Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren underscored the crucial need to unite various civil bodies and organizations in the state, as both the Central and State governments encounter challenges in determining which entities should be engaged in dialogue.

His remarks were made during the state-level observance of “Meri Maati Mera Desh” at the MSFDS auditorium in Palace Compound, Imphal today. Biren assured that the Manipur government is committed to respecting the desires of the public. He called for an opportunity for the state government to present a joint demand to the Centre, formed through the collaboration of different civil bodies within the state. Biren emphasized the necessity of making prudent decisions given the critical state of affairs in Manipur. He appealed for an end to mutual criticism and character assassination for political gains.

Biren stressed that the present government would never compromise the interests of Manipur for political advantages. He expressed his disappointment with a particular political party that previously advocated for the imposition of President’s Rule in the state, which would bring hardships for citizens, yet now showcases a veneer of patriotism. He called upon the populace to trust the government and assured that it stands resolute in not opposing public sentiments. Biren maintained that the ongoing conflict is not a result of disputes between communities within the state, but rather a threat posed by illegal immigrants. He affirmed that the state government is dedicated to reinstating peaceful coexistence among the indigenous population.

Addressing recent firing incidents by suspected Kuki militants in the Naransena area of Bishnupur District, where one farmer was injured, Chief Minister N.Biren vehemently condemned the incident. He disclosed that the government promptly dispatched State Forces to the area, and personnel from the IRB and State Forces conducted a rigorous search operation, leading to the arrest of one individual carrying a 303 Rifle. He reassured that State forces are executing their duties across all districts of the state without any interference or hindrance.

The “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign was inaugurated on August 9, as a culminating event of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The campaign serves as a tribute to the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
