Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday assured that the culprit(s) involved in the shooting and killing of a village chief in Kangpokpi district will be brought to justice.

Zilhem Khongsai (57), chief of Naphai village of Saikul subdivision of Kangpokpi district, was shot dead by armed miscreants after calling him out from his house on Monday night

Talking on the sideline of a function at the chief minister’s secretariat, the chief minister termed the killing of the chief as an act of cowardly people and assured that the government will not spare those involved in the killing.

“Culprits will be arrested and befitting punishment will be given,” he said, and added that investigation has been initiated to track down the culprits. He hoped that the police will arrest the culprits at the earliest and initiate legal action against them to award punishment as per the law.
