Senapati: A village chief in Saikul block succumbed to bullet injury after he was shot at, reportedly called out from his house on Monday night.

The decease is identified as a 57-year-old, Zilhem Khongsai said to be the chief of Naphai village, Saikul, under Senapati district.

Sources said that Zilhem Khongsai was reportedly called out from home around 11:50 pm of June 6 after which a sound of gunshot was heard.

The chief was found with serious bullet injury and was rushed to Saikul CHC where he succumbed to his injury.

The motive behind the murder has not been ascertained, nor claimed by any during the filing of this report.
