CHANDEL: The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) on Monday announced its support to the inter-district economic blockade imposed under the aegis of the Working Group of the United Naga Council (WG-UNC), enforcing the agitation across Chandel district with immediate effect.

In a circulation issued following an emergency meeting held on May 18, the apex body assigned different tribal organisations and frontal groups to oversee enforcement at key locations across the district.

According to the order, Machi area has been placed under MUA, Aimol Pallet under the Aimol and Maring tribes, while the Imphal–Moreh road stretch has been entrusted to LNKK, BAP, CLAM, SUR, TAR, NSUC and CNPO.

The Chakpikarong area has been assigned to ANTA, Khoibu Centre to UMK, and Chandel–Vomku road to SUR and NCAC.

The CNPO further stated that essential commodities and supplies meant for local beneficiaries would be allowed free passage into the district. However, it declared that movement of outgoing goods would remain prohibited with immediate effect as part of the blockade enforcement.

The CNPO also instructed that any dispute or incident arising at the designated points be reported directly to its office for necessary action.
