UKHRUL: The National Socialist Women’s Organisation of Nagalim (NSWON) and the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation have expressed deep condolences on the death of Vilanuo Angela Yhome, the president of the Naga Mothers’ Association. She reportedly breathed her last at approximately 8:00 am today.

The late Lt. Vilanuo Angela Yhome was born on June 5, 1959, in Kohima village. At the time of her passing, she was serving as the president of the Naga Mothers’ Association. Throughout her life, she held various significant positions, including serving as a board member for Cradle Ridge for many years and a long-time member of the Naga Mothers’ Peace Committee. Additionally, she was an active member of the Global Naga Forum and served as the General Secretary of the Tenyimi Women’s Union. Ms. Yhome also held leadership roles as the president and advisor of the Nagaland Catholic Women Association and as a board member of the Catholic Women of India from 2015 to 2023, among other contributions.
Her requiem mass will be held at Christ the King Church, Kohima village, tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
The NSWON, expressing profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss, stated that her departure has created a void that will be difficult to fill, not only in the hearts of her family and loved ones but among the Naga people whom she served with unwavering dedication, courage and selfless commitment.
“She is a woman who has stood as a symbol of integrity, compassion and steadfast devotion to the rights, dignity and aspirations of the Naga people. Her tireless service and wise leadership notwithstanding her age, and unwavering love for her people inspired the Nagas and strengthened the collective spirit of the Naga nation. She will be remembered as a Naga leader whose life was guided by her conviction, sacrifice and unbreakable commitment to the common good of the Nagas. As we bid farewell to this remarkable daughter of the Naga nation, we give thanks for her beautiful legacy. Though she is no longer with us in body, her vision, values and patriotic service will continue to inspire future generations,” the NSWON’s condolence message read.

Similarly, the CNPO conveyed its profound grief, stating that her death is not only a personal loss but a solemn blow to the entire Naga nation.
“A woman of unwavering conviction, remarkable grace, and exemplary leadership, she devoted her life to upholding the dignity of Naga motherhood, nurturing social harmony, safeguarding indigenous values, and tirelessly advancing the collective aspirations of the Naga people. Her wisdom, moral courage, and quiet resilience earned her the admiration and respect of generations,” the CNPO stated.
Further, the organisation lamented that during this pivotal moment in their national journey, the departure of such a respected figure leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. “While her earthly voice may now be silent, her ideals, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment will continue to guide the pursuit of justice, unity, peace, and national consciousness. The hands that nurtured the people may now rest, but the seeds she sowed will keep flourishing, they added.

The NSWON and the CNPO, while extending their prayer for strength, comfort, and peace for the bereaved families, relatives, and friends, also prayed for her noble soul to rest in eternal peace.
