Congress holds protest in favour of postponing exams: Shillong

Published on

Shillong, Aug 28: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee held a protest in Shillong demanding the postponement of the JEE-NEET examinations due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The protest was in response to a call from the party high command for coordinated events around the country to exert pressure on the central government to push the exams, scheduled for next month, back.

The programme began with a “massive” online campaign – Speak up for Student Safety – followed by the main protest led by Meghalaya Congress Working President James Lyngdoh at Congress Bhawan here.

In his address, Lyngdoh regretted that the Centre was “trying to bulldoze their plan of holding JEE-NEET against the interest of the students”.

He deplored that the government “has not made suitable transport facilities for all candidates and feared that in the process the poor and the students of the remote areas would be left out.”

Others who spoke on the occasion included Bajop Pyngrope MDC and state President of the National Students Union of India, Bansharailang Pyngrope.
