IMPHAL/UKHRUL: Meghalaya chief minister and national president of the National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad K. Sangma, on Friday called for a fair and thorough investigation into the NEET examination paper leak, saying those found responsible should face strict action based on the findings of the probe.
Speaking to reporters at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on touch down, arriving on a two-day visit to Manipur, Conrad Sangma said he had come to meet the people of the state, express his solidarity and concern, and understand how the party could contribute towards improving the situation in Manipur. He said the visit also included meetings with party leaders, MLAs and frontal organisations to strengthen the party in the state.

Replying to questions on the nationwide protests over the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak, Conrad Sangma said the issue should be examined from multiple angles. He stressed that the first priority should be a proper investigation to identify those responsible for the leak and ensure that appropriate action is taken against them.
He also said there was considerable public anger over the manner in which protesting students were allegedly handled by the police, adding that the situation could have been managed better. However, he welcomed the ongoing dialogue between the government and the protesters and expressed hope that the discussions would result in a constructive and lasting solution.
When asked about the Opposition’s demand for the resignation of the Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Conrad Sangma said responsibility should be fixed only after a proper investigation. He maintained that removing an individual without establishing the facts would not be fair and reiterated that action should be taken against whoever is found responsible for the alleged NEET examination paper leak.
