Construction material worth over ₹68 lakhs stolen in Gangtok

UKHRUL: Construction material worth more than Rs 68 lakhs has been reported stolen from multiple construction sites in Gangtok.

Police confirmed that a case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 including sections 305 (a), 329 (3) and 3(5).

The FIR was lodged by Vikash Sharma (23) a resident of Rajasthan presently residing at Bojoghari, Gangtok.

Reportedly, Sharma is the Project Manager of Shri Balajee Palace Pvt. Ltd.

The company was awarded construction work by MES contractor Kacho Bhutia at three locations—3rd Mile Petrol Pump, Army Camp Shopping Complex and Tashi View Point in Bojoghari.

According to the FIR, construction material had been missing gradually from the sites over the past six to seven months.

An internal inquiry led to the discovery of illegal persons entering the site and stealing large quantities of materials.

Investigation uncovered that stolen items included 1,500 boxes of tiles, 35,000kg of steel valued Rs 19.95 lakh, 2,500 bags of cement worth Rs 9.75 along with sanitary and electronic items.

Police confirmed that the investigation and efforts to identity those involved are underway.
