IMPHAL: The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a coalition of several insurgent groups active in Manipur, has called for a total shutdown to coincide with President Droupadi Murmu’s upcoming visit to the state.

In a statement issued by CorCom, it said the shutdown would begin at 1 pm on the day of the President’s arrival and remain in force for the duration of her stay. Essential services—including medical emergencies, fire services, water supply, and ritual-related activities—have been exempted.

CorCom claimed that the President’s visit on December 11, a day ahead of the state’s observance of Nupi Lal Day on December 12, would not contribute to peace or development. Instead, the outfit alleged that the visit would heighten tensions among communities and accused the Centre of aggravating what it described as an ongoing conflict in the state. The group announced that it would boycott the visit.

The statement also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur on September 13, alleging that it formed part of what the organisation called a larger attempt to divide the state. CorCom blamed the central leadership for the prolonged violence, which has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands since last year.

The group further described the President’s visit as politically provocative and alleged that it would undermine efforts to restore stability. It reiterated its opposition to what it views as attempts by the central government to weaken Manipur’s unity and integrity.
