UKHRUL: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, a Kuki civil body has called a 24-hour total shutdown of National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) from 5 am on September 1 to 5 am on September 2, protesting what it described as continued attacks and burning of Kuki-Zo villages.
The shutdown comes following Monday morning’s attack on Teikhang village along the IT Road, where three civilians were reportedly killed and four others critically injured. The attack also allegedly left residential houses burnt.

In a press communiqué issued on August 31, CoTU alleged that the attacks on Kuki-Zo villages were being carried out by the NSCN-IM and ZUF, and said Monday’s attack at Teikhang was the latest incident prompting the shutdown.
CoTU said the shutdown would cover NH-2, also known as the Imphal-Dimapur Road, from 5 am on September 1 to 5 am on September 2, 2026.
However, educational institutions, medical services, fire services, banks and electricity departments have been exempted from the shutdown, according to the communiqué.

The Teikhang attack has added to the recent violence along the IT Road corridor, where four Naga civilians were killed in an alleged ambush on August 27 and two Liangmai Naga civilians were killed in an attack on Langka village on August 14.
CoTU said the shutdown was being observed in protest against what it termed continued attacks on Kuki-Zo villages and demanded attention to the security situation in the area.
