UKHRUL: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, a Kuki civil body based in Kangpokpi has condemned the reported killing of Paonjamg Chonloi, from Twilang, allegedly by members of the NSCN-IM and ZUF Kamson group.
CoTU has claimed that the deceased is a 33-KV lineman and described the incident as an attempt by what it termed “Tangkhul-led” armed groups to target civilians and urged the state government to take action against the groups.
CoTU alleged that the NSCN-IM and its alleged proxy, the ZUF Kamson group, had been coercing communities within the Naga areas and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
The Kuki body further said the mortal remains of Chonloi would not be claimed by the Kuki-Zo community until those responsible for his death are brought to justice, along with the perpetrators allegedly responsible for the deaths of seven other Kuki-Zo individuals.
The condemnation came amid fresh violence along the Noney-Kangpokpi-Senapati border, where five Naga villages came under reported attacks early Wednesday.
Makui Chamriupiu, Langka and Thanamba in Kangpokpi district, along with Tazeikaiphun Part 3 and Kapningching Mukti Part 5 in Noney district, reportedly came under attack. Homes were reportedly set ablaze at Makui Chamriupiu and Kapningching, while residents fled to surrounding forests.
