With the COVID-19 situation in Manipur fast improving, the active cases in the state reduced to below 400-mark.

However, after six days of no death due to the pandemic, a 90-year-old man died on Saturday to become the latest casualty related to the disease. The death toll rose to 366 on Saturday.

The state witnessed steady decline in the daily caseload since the middle week of November and since December last week, the daily caseload was below 100-mark in most of the days. A total of 24 persons were reported as new positive cases in the last 24 hours (till 5pm of January 16), surging the overall infection tally in the state to 28,835, the state health department said.

The tally included 28,089 recoveries as the active cases reduced to 380 with the discharge of 79 patients after recovering from the viral infection in 24 hours.

The state’s COVID-19 recovery rate also reached 97.41%, the daily update of the health department stated.

Of the 24 new positive cases, 11 were from Thoubal, six from Imphal West, three from Tamenglong, two from Kangpokpi, and one each from Imphal East and Chandel.
