Curfew Imposed in Churachandpur Town from October 16 till 18 Amid Fears of Violence

Imphal: The District Magistrate of Churachandpur has imposed a curfew in the entire town area of Churachandpur district, effective from 6 PM on October 16 to 8 AM on October 18, until further orders, “in order to maintain law and order to prevent any untoward incident of violence from occurring.”

The curfew, in an order issued on Wednesday by Dharun Kumar S, IAS, District Magistrate, Churchandpur District said, was enforced after careful consideration to prevent any potential incidents of violence and to address the serious apprehension of a breach of law and order. The imposition of the curfew is aimed at maintaining peace and tranquility in the district under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023.

“Whereas, report has been received from the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur that, there is a serious apprehension of breach of law-and-order situation in the entire town areas of the district…” said the order.

According to the order, all unauthorized processions or unlawful assemblies of five or more people are prohibited. The carrying of arms or other objects, such as sticks, rods, and stones that could be used as weapons, is also strictly forbidden.

The prohibitory order said, “…prohibiting the unauthorized procession or unlawful assembly of five (5) or more persons and carrying arms/ other instruments which can be used as weapon/s including sticks/ rods and stones. This Order is in addition to the Curfew Order imposed under Section 163 of BNSS, 2023 vide order of even no. dated 29 September 2024.”

Agencies of the Government involved in the enforcement of law and order and maintenance of others essential services are exempted.
