Curfew and Internet Ban Extended in Manipur Valley

Imphal: The Manipur government has extended curfew order and curbs on internet in the state till 5:15 pm of November 27. 

The move comes in the wake of Jiribam horror and subsequent intense public protests.

The internet ban has been further extended  till 5:15 pm of November 27, Manipur government Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar informed in a statement released to the press. 

Internet has been suspended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Pherzawl districts.

The step has been taken up considering the possible posting of offensive messages by anti-social elements which can aggravate the law and order situation, it said. 

At the same time, the indefinite curfew being imposed under Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the valley districts, including Jiribam will remain in force, the government statement said.

In a normal manner, curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 12 noon on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, all educational institutions will remain closed till further order from the government.
