Ukhrul: A body of a man whose left chest, in what seems to be a bomb, was shattered by the impact of an explosion was found at Konghang Ngayi at Ukhrul on Tuesday. The place is in close proximity to the main town — about 1 Km from Ukhrul town and half kilometer from Ukhrul-Jessami National Highway-202.

The deceased has been identified as Rajen Konsam (around 60 years), s/o Chaoba Konsam of Leitanpokpi Pukhao, Imphal East and presently staying at Khayiashat Ukhrul. Arun Kumar, Church Secretary of Meitei Baptist Church, Ukhrul informed that “Rajen Konsam is a member of MBC Ukhrul and has been staying at Ukhrul for the past 20 years as a concrete mason.”

Ranjen Konsam’s sister confirmed over the phone the last conversation between them was made at around 5:30 pm on Monday. Rajen has been married thrice informed the church elder and was under disciplinary action by the MBC, Ukhrul.

Ranjen Konsam’s body was discovered in the morning by passers-by. Ukhrul Police received the information at around 8:15 am today. The body is still lying inside the cremation side maintained by Hindu Samaj, Ukhrul.

Due to the impact of the explosion, pieces of his clothes could be seen scattered at the impact area and on the wall. Suspected to be an explosion of gelatin. There is no mark of hard object on the wall or on the surrounding. One phone was found lying on the left side of the deceased body, and a cigarette gas lighter to the right side. The impact of the explosion tore off huge portion of his left chest.
Locals informed that they heard a sound of a loud explosion at around 7-8 pm on Monday, December 11, 2023).
Ukhrul Police informed that a “mobile forensic team from Imphal is on the way and will be arriving soon to take stock of the matter”, while a case has been registered at Ukhrul PS, UD. Case No. 03/UKL-PS/2023,
U/S 174 C.r. P.C. “So far there is no suspicion of foul play,” Police said.
A detailed report of the causes will be ascertained only after the mobile forensic team from Imphal arrive at the spot. This is a developing story.
