Ukhrul: 32 member Die-in-harness Applicants Association of Autonomous District Council (DAAADCU) in a conference at Ukhrul ADC office complex in Phungreitang, Ukhrul on Wednesday expressed resentment over two former Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) for neglecting and ill treatment of their dues – their appointment orders.

K. Nathan, secretary of DAAADC said, “Some of the applicants have reached 10 years and most applicants are reaching a decade trying to get appointed. In the other districts, almost everyone has been appointed and there are few pending except Ukhrul”.

“During their tenure as CEOs, we have spent our time, money and energy to get the die-in-harness appointments, Dipu Kangmei and Polly Makan have been transferred to another place but we still haven’t got our appointment”, he added.

According to DAAADCU, the applicants were promised by the two former ADC CEOs to give an appointment order under the condition that they pay some amount of money to get appointed.

  1. During the tenure of Dipu Gangmei, each and every 32 applicants gave an amount of
Rs. 1, 80,000/- to Roger Kasar (2015-2016), present Casier of ADC, Ukhrul.
  2. During the tenure of Polly Makan each and every 32 applicants gave an amount of Rs. 80,000/- to Mingthingla (2017) AI, ADC Ukhrul.

A father present in the meeting said that even after paying the Rs. 2,60,000 amount, they were asked to bring documents like death certificates and others. Later they were continually called for interview and were even offered to take 4th grade job.

He continued saying that Polly Makan promised them to get appointed in 3 to 4 days after they pay a sum of Rs. 80,000. The die-in-harness did what was asked of them, even agreeing to 4th grade, but till now no one has been appointed.

Another widow applicant said, “My husband died in 2009, my children were still in school now they have completed their schooling we don’t have much income so I had to borrow money from others to be able to get the post. They told us that we will not get the post if we don’t pay the money. We are in great debt now. I had to work daily wages to send my children to colleges. They have completed their studies but till now we have not got appointment.”

Another applicant’s father also said, “My daughter is trying to get the die-in-harness for her brother, my son who died 7 years ago. We have been trying to get the post for almost a decade. Like others have said, we have borrowed money to pay for this post. It has been too long, some have already passed away waiting to get the post and for some they have almost crossed their age limit. We have been promised to give appointment many times but nothing till now. The CEOs have collected the amount promising to get them the post. While other districts have all been given the post, in Ukhrul no one has been appointed”.

DAAADCU had also written to the Chief Minister on August 9, 2021 requesting him to look into the matter.
