DM University locked by students; protest hike in fee

Imphal, Nov 22:  Students on Wednesday locked the administrative block of Dhanamanjuri University or DMU in Imphal in protest against a hike in the examination fee.

Post graduate students preparing for appearing in the 2nd semester and 4th semester exams agitated today after the authorities of the university failed to heed to their demand, not to hike the fees.

The students stormed the A-block of the university in Imphal to lodge a complaint against the hike in the examination fees in a notification issued by him fixing the exam fees of the students.

When the controller was not found in his office chamber and none of the officials was ready to hear their complaint, the students locked the A-block.

The agitating students alleged that the authorities of the university were not ready to address the demand of the students despite their repeated pleas.

The students said that they have been pressing the authorities of the university including the vice-chancellor not to hike the fee considering the plights of the students due to the present unrest in the state.

Regarding the matter, they had met with the controller of the examinations of the university yesterday and reiterated their request not to hike the examination fees considering the financial burden of the students who are already facing a lot of difficulties due to the present unrest in the state.

In response to the demand, the controller maintained that with the state returning to normalcy, the authorities of the university rejected the plea of the students and issued a fresh examination notification today, fixing the examination fees higher than the previous amounts.

To note, the controller of examination in a notification stated the MA/M Sc/MPES/M Com/LLM 2nd semester, 2023 will commence from December 11 while fixing the aggregate examination fee at Rs 2300.
