Early Release of Salaries, Price Monitoring urged ahead of Christmas 2024

Ukhrul: B. D. Behring, former MLA from Manipur has urged the state government to release advance payments of salaries, allowances, and pensions ahead of Christmas celebrations on December 25, 2024.

The request comes in light of a precedent set earlier this year when the government released advance payments for October 2024 ahead of the Ningol Chakouba festival. “Just as the State Government of Manipur released advance pay & allowances/monthly pension for October 2024 on account of the Ningol Chakouba festival vide order No. FR-8/20/2024-e-FD, dated 24* October, I am writing to respectfully request that the State Government consider releasing the salaries & allowances/monthly pension of its employees ahead of schedule, in view of the upcoming Christmas celebration on December 25, 2024,” wrote B. D. Behring.

As the festive season approaches, citizens and state employees of Manipur are preparing for the Christmas celebration, as well as recognizing the importance of the festival for the Christian community, B. D. Behring stated, “Christmas is one of the most important festivals for the Christian community, and many employees in the state look forward to celebrating this occasion with their families and loved ones.”

He further added that Christmas holds immense significance for the Christian community in Manipur, and an early release of funds would not only enable employees to make necessary preparations but also reflect the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce. Such a gesture would contribute to the overall festive spirit and foster goodwill among the people.

Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding the potential price hike of essential commodities during the Christmas season. In previous years, B. D. Behring observed that “prices of essential commodities such as food items, decorations, dresses & gifts etc tend to increase exorbitantly during the Christian season. This price hike causes undue hardship to the common people, especially those from low-income backgrounds.”

To address this issue, he also drew the attention of the Consumer Affairs Department to take proactive measures in monitoring and regulating prices. Ensuring fair pricing during the festive season would help alleviate the financial burden on families and contribute to a joyful and stress-free celebration for all, he added.
