SHILLONG, AUG 14: East Khasi Hills Police have put in place comprehensive security arrangements for the 80th Independence Day, with the state’s largest flag-hoisting ceremony scheduled at Polo Grounds, SP Vivek Syiem said on Friday.
“Elaborate arrangements have been made for the celebrations. Polo will host the biggest flag-hoisting ceremony in the state, while Sohra and Pynursla sub-divisions will also hold separate parades and functions,” Syiem said.
The SP said the district is on high alert and vulnerable points have been secured.
“Deployments have been made across several locations. The district police are on alert and we will ensure an incident-free Independence Day. Tackle teams and regular teams are all in place,” he said.
Syiem added that additional forces have been inducted and are deployed round the clock.
“Several companies have arrived in the district and have been stationed at various points,” he said.
