Imphal, July 1: The Eastern Liangmai Chief/Chairman Association (ELCCA) has issued a firm and uncompromising statement opposing the proposed construction of the so-called “German Road” or “Tiger Road,” which is intended to connect Kangpokpi to Churachandpur through Naga ancestral territory.

ELCCA stated that no such road, under any name has ever existed in the past or is recognised in the present or future within their land. It described the road names as fabricated and lacking legitimacy in Naga history, tradition, or land records. “These names are fabricated and hold no legitimacy in our history, tradition or land records,” the statement read.

The association declared that any move to impose such projects in their ancestral lands would be viewed as an act of aggression and provocation. “Any forceful or deceitful attempt to intrude into our ancestral domain under the guise of development will be met with unrelenting resistance,” it warned.

ELCCA cautioned that such actions could lead to widespread unrest and communal conflict, stating that those who ignore the warning will bear full responsibility for the consequences.

Calling upon the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the association urged the government not to support or permit what it called the Kuki community’s “wishlist.” According to the statement, doing so would amount to endorsing territorial encroachment and would severely endanger inter-community relations.

ELCCA further demanded the immediate dismantling of all Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps of Kuki militant groups situated near Naga-inhabited areas, citing them as a serious threat to peace and a source of constant intimidation.

While reaffirming their identity as a peace-loving people, ELCCA stated that they would not remain passive in the face of “deceit, provocation, or occupation.”

“We are the rightful guardians of our land, and we will defend it by all means necessary,” the statement concluded.
