European Manipuri Association Condemns Abduction of Women and Children in Manipur

Ukhrul: In a recent press statement, the European Manipuri Association (EMA) has condemned the escalating violence in Manipur, focusing on the distressing abduction of six women and children from Jiribam on November 11. The association expressed concern over the incident, which it described as a “deeply disturbing” example of the hardships civilians—particularly women and children—are facing amid the ongoing unrest in the region.

EMA emphasized that the safety of women and children must remain a priority under any circumstance and that they should never be used as instruments in conflicts, regardless of political or ethnic differences. “The security and welfare of the most vulnerable members of society reflect the collective humanity of a region,” the statement read.

The association has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted women and children and urged all parties involved to prioritize humanitarian principles and act with compassion. Furthermore, the EMA appealed to the Government of Manipur and the Indian central authorities to take swift, decisive action to ensure the safe return of the victims and to work diligently toward restoring peace, stability, and mutual trust within the region.

The EMA concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to advocating for peace and protecting the human rights of all Manipuris.
