Ex-HNLC leader Killed in encounter; 10 PLA cadres killed in Factional clash

Chesterfield Thangkhiew, former HNLC leader was killed in a joint encounter with Meghalaya police on Friday. The joint encounter was carried out by team of East Jaintia Hills police and East Khasi Hills police at his residence in Mawlai-Kynton Massar in Shillong.

The 56-yar-old former HNLC leader, Thangkhiew was killed early Friday morning in connection with the recent IED blasts where two persons were injured on August 10. Suspected HNLC militants had hands in another blast in July last at a police reserve barracks in East Jaintia Hills district headquarters.

In another case of intra-factional clash, over 10 cadres of the proscribed People Liberation Army cadres were reportedly killed at Nayang Wakathan camp of NSCN (K) YA group following intra-factional clash on August 10. Some of the identified PLA cadres killed in the clash, according to The Frontier Manipur report are Major Boycha, Leimba, Angamba, Tanthouba, Tomcha and Suresh. The report adds that the location of the clash is reportedly on the other side of Pangsau Pass in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh where PLA cadres were taking shelters on a “payment basis,” according to TFM source.
