Imphal: First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against M Pramot Singh, chief of Meetei Lipun at Kangpokpi Police Station.
The FIR was lodged based on complaints filed by president of Kuki Students’ Organisation -Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District Satminthang Kipgen and general secretary of KSO-Sadar Hills, Thangtinlen Haokip on July 8.

Promot Singh has been charged under section 120-B/153-A/504/505/506/34 IPC for Punishment of Criminal Conspiracy, Promoting and enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc. act prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, Intentional Insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, public mischief, Punishment for criminal intimidation with common intention.

Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) the apex body of the Kuki tribe in June 2023 demanded that the Centre should declare the Meetei Lipun as an outlawed organization after Pramot Singh in an incriminating interview with Karan Thapar for The Wire, categorically said “what was happening in Manipur was just a spark,” and that “a bigger blow is coming.”

KIM demanded the arrest of Pramot Singh, under relevant laws for instigating the violence and issuing threats that could further lead to escalation of the violence.
KIM had also requested the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, to take up suo-moto case against Meetei Lipun chief for inciting violence against the Kuki-Zo people. The apex Kuki body had also demanded to probe the involvement of the Arambai Tenggol in the letter to GoI.
