First Federal Assembly of Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) Convenes

Chandel, Sep 2: The inaugural Federal Assembly of the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) for the 2024-2027 tenure was successfully held on August 31, 2024, at the Mohring Memorial Multipurpose Hall, hosted by LNKK. The assembly began with a prayer led by Rev. Shonai Saka, President of the Chandel Naga Christian Forum (CNCF), and the flag was hoisted by D. Ringo, former CNPO President.

A moment of silence was observed to honor the memory of departed former leaders. The roll call, conducted by the Speaker, confirmed the attendance of 65 members, fulfilling the quorum requirements. Ws Kohmansingh Anal was appointed as the sessional Secretary for the assembly.

In a significant move, the Executive Council was endorsed to address several key vacancies, including the Research & Documentation Secretary, Assembly Secretary, and Deputy Assembly Secretary. The assembly also appointed five former CNPO Presidents—Rd. David Boyes, Ng. Gilbert, D. Ringo, St. Nunghlung Victor, and Ws. Kanral—to the CNPO Tribunal. Additionally, Malsawn Thao (CLAM), Ps. Monahring (ANTA), and Ng. Benithan (SUR) were designated as auditors for the current tenure, reflecting a commitment to robust oversight and accountability.

The assembly made notable appointments to the Chandel Naga Intellectual Forum (CNIF), approving members including Leivon Reameishan Aimol, Hb. Ruwnghnem Anal, Pr. Rengir Chothe, Db. Rengthang Lamkang, Luckson Kom, Dr. Ml Dominic Maring, Sh. Chungkhollen Monsang, Rev. Dr. Ng. Koningthung Moyon, Aphung Jajo Tangkhul, Dr. S. Moses Tarao, Kothyeldawn Khaling Uipo (Khuibu), and the President of CNPO. These appointments are expected to bolster the intellectual and cultural contributions of the forum.

To facilitate the Stone Erection project for CNPO, the assembly approved the formation of several committees: the Monolith Committee (MC), Finance Committee, Souvenir Committee, and Programme Committee. These committees will play crucial roles in overseeing various aspects of the project.

The assembly also approved the Constitution Amendment Committee, with a mandate to consider additional proposals for amendments beyond those initially listed. This decision reflects a commitment to evolving the constitution in response to emerging needs and insights.

Finally, the assembly endorsed the proposed budget for 2024-2025, as detailed by Finance Secretary Mr. Kh. Lungkim Chothe. The budget was approved with assurances to integrate suggestions from the house, ensuring that financial planning aligns with the assembly’s priorities. Additionally, the assembly resolved to strongly advocate with the Government of India for a framework agreement, seeking a swift and amicable resolution to longstanding demands.

The assembly concluded with an Installation and Blessing Prayer led by Rev. Shrimon Monsang, Vice President of CNCF, and the dehoisting of the speaker, Mosyelsaangthyel Khaling.
