Ukhrul, Dec 10: The first-ever Hungpung Self-Help Group (SHG) Federation Ginger Festival was held on Monday at the Kaziphung High School Ground in Hungpung, under the theme “Ginger for the Sustenance of Livelihood.” The event saw enthusiastic participation from 280 members representing 14 SHGs from Hungpung.
Kengoo Zuringla, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, and Martin Muivah attended the event as the chief guest and the guest of honor respectively.
Speaking at the event, the chief guest commended the women of Kaziphung SHG for their dedication and encouraged them to continue their efforts and envision a future where their initiatives benefit the entire district and the state.
Highlighting the festival’s significance, K. Chuihaola, President of the SHG Federation, Kaziphung, Hungpung, shared insights about ginger cultivation in the region and its growth potential. However, she lamented that the lack of market accessibility had discouraged farmers from producing ginger on a larger scale. “This festival aims to address those challenges. Each member of the 14 SHGs brought 10 kilograms of ginger, alongside other farm produce, for display. With over 280 members involved, we aim to promote mass production and expand our market reach within and outside the state,” she said.
The President of the SHG Federation emphasized that their ginger’s high organic quality has attracted interest from potential buyers. “The organic value of our ginger makes it highly marketable. Interested buyers can contact us for bulk purchases,” she added.
