Shillong: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Peoples (FKJGP), Garo Hills Zone, has strongly condemned the murder of Dilseng M Sangma, a member of ACHIK NGO, in Goalgaon, West Garo Hills district.

Dilseng Sangma was killed on January 9 in Rajabala area in West Garo Hills by a gang when a group of activists including the deceased was inspecting an alleged illegal stone quarry.

In a statement issued on Sunday, FKJGP president Pritam Arengh demanded immediate action against the perpetrators and said, “We took serious note of the incident and demand that the people involved be immediately brought to justice and ex-gratia be provided to the bereaved family at the earliest.”

The organization has called for a transparent and fair investigation, warning that any lapse will be viewed as insincerity towards the Garo community.

“The inquiry should be transparent, fair and ensure that no stone is left unturned during the process of investigating the matter,” Arengh said.

FKJGP has also demanded that the stone quarry involved in the incident be sealed and seized. The organization appealed to residents of the plain belt areas to cooperate with authorities in identifying and arresting those involved.

Extending its condolences to the bereaved family, the FKJGP said, “May the departed soul lay in the arms of Almighty God and rest in eternal peace. May you find peace and solace knowing that he left for heavenly abode to rest eternally in the arms of Almighty God.”
