Former AMWJU president Kangujam Madhumangol passes away at 79

Imphal: Former president of All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) Kangujam Madhumangol passed away at his residence Kakwa Lamdaibung in Imphal on Friday night.

Veteran journalist Madhumangol was 79 and is survived by his wife and son.

A founding member of AMWJU, Madhumangol was also served as the news editor at ISTV, a popular local cable news network, from 2002-2007. Prior to that, he also worked as an assistant teacher at Phayeng High School from 1964-68.

During his stint in media, he was also honoured Indramani Memorial Journalist Award in 2004 and NETV People’s Choice Award in 2005.

Expressing his condolences, chief minister N Biren Singh said, “Aggrieved to learn about the demise of former AMWJU President, Shri Kangujam Madhumangol. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved friends and family. May his soul rest in eternal peace at the heavenly abode.”

The Editors Guild, Manipur (EGM) and AMWJU have also expressed condolences over the dead of the veteran journalist and said that “his passing away will be a huge lost for the media fraternity of the state.”

A condolence meeting was also held by members of the two union presided by AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Saturday.
