Former Minister A.S. Arthur and Khatingla Keishing Pass Away

UKHRUL: Former MLA A.S. Arthur, who represented the 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, passed away on Saturday morning at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi at approximately 4:40 AM. He was 99 years old.

A.S. Arthur served as the Minister for Forest and General Administration from 1994 to 1997 and was originally from Shangshak Phunghon village in Ukhrul District. He was the father of Alfred Kanngam Arthur, the current Member of Parliament for the Manipur Outer Constituency.

A condolence service for the deceased will be held today at 7:00 PM at Dwaar Centre in Safdarjung, Delhi.

Manipur chief minister Y Khemchand Singh said on X that he is “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran leader Shri AS Arthur, former Minister (GAD & Forest), at 99 in New Delhi. A respected statesman who served Manipur with dedication in the 1980s–90s. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.

Meanwhile, Khatingla Keishing, the wife of the late Rishang Keishing, former Chief Minister and political veteran, also passed away on Saturday at around 7:35 AM. She hailed from Bungpa Khunou village under Kamjong District, Manipur. She was 96 years old.

She passed away at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal after suffering from a prolonged illness and had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
