Chandel, July 29: The foundation for a 100-bedded DA-JGUA Hostel, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, at the Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School (MUGHSS), Chandel, was laid on Tuesday at the school’s premises.
Virtually laid by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, Government of India, the foundation stone was unveiled by Md. Firoj Khan, MCS, Additional DC/CEO, ADC, Chandel at the Administrative Block of MUGHSS, Chandel. It was held in the presence of I. Premananda, EE, Education Engineering Wing; Hb. Starson Anal, ZEO in-charge, Chandel; Kl. Warson Anal, Principal in-charge, MUGHSS, Chandel; lecturers of the school, students and well-wishers.
To be funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the engineering wing of the Education Department will take charge of the construction.

Addressing the event, Md. Firoj Khan, MCS, informed that the 100-bedded hostels, 50-bedded for boys and 50-bedded for girls, will be constructed under Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA) scheme. The scheme was launched by the government for development of tribal communities in the country, the Additional DC said.
He also expressed confidence that the hostel will be vital in enrollment of more students to the school and improve the educational system in the district.
I. Premananda, EE, Education Engineering Wing, said that he would put in his best level to complete the construction of the hostels within eight months so that they could be put to use in the next academic year. He also said he would pursue the North East Council (NEC) for fund to improve the infrastructure of the school.
Hb. Starson Anal, ZEO in-charge, Chandel said it is very fortunate for the people of Chandel to get such opportunity. Chandel is the only aspirational district in the state and we should convert that aspirational district into an inspirational district, the ZEO said.

Earlier, Kl. Warson Anal, Principal in-charge, MUGHSS, Chandel welcomed all those present and also thanked the Additional DC, EE, ZEO in-charge, SMDC Members and well-wishers for the support.
Besides the teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the institute, the event was also attended by village authority members of Japhou Village, Riverlane village, SMDC Member Noah Langhu who is also the chief of Lambung village.
