At least four BJP workers were wounded and vehicles they were travelling in were also damaged after they were attacked by a group of people on Wednesday night, a report said on Thursday. The incident occurred at Lhunwang village under Singhat Assembly constituency of Churachandpur district last night, around 7.30 pm.
Singhat (ST Reserved) Assembly constituency is among the five Assembly constituencies where by-elections will be held on November 7.

The Wednesday night incident occurred when the BJP workers and supporters were reportedly returning after the election campaign at some villages at Behiang area near the Indo-Myanmar border, the report said. It further said that when the BJP workers and supporters reached Lhunwang village, stones were pelted towards the vehicles first.

Minutes later, a group of people numbering around 50 armed with sticks and other weapons came out and attacked them without saying any words, the report further said. Four BJP workers and supporters sustained injuries in the attack. They were rushed to Churachandpur district hospital after administering first aid on the way, the report added.

However, none of them sustained serious injuries, the report further said.

Ginsuanhau who joined the BJP after the resignation was recently named as BJP candidate to be contested from the constituency.
