Fresh Violence in Manipur; Firing reported in areas under Maphou Dam Police Station

Imphal: In fresh bout of violence in Manipur, armed miscreants launched attacks at Moirangpurel and Tumulok areas under Maphou Dam Police Station in Imphal East District on Tuesday afternoon around 1 PM.

Sources said, suspected Kuki armed assailants attacked Meitei villages and locals who were engaged in sand quarrying activities using bombs and bullets, reportedly reaching till a Tangkhul village in their manoeuvre.

There is no report of any casualties till the time of filing this report. However, the firing incident left many sand carrying vehicles damaged.

Meitei armed groups also reportedly retaliated resulting in a heavy exchange of fire in the area, sources said.

Security Forces have been rushed to the area to take stock of the situation. Further reports awaited.
