In a message issued by the Global Naga Forum on Monday, representing Naga people from four continents, expressed warm wishes for good health and success to Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The Forum extended gratitude to Rahul Gandhi and his party organizers for the rare opportunity to meet on his significant yatra.

Acknowledging the goodwill of the Naga people across Northeast India, as well as those in the Naga Self-Administered Zone in Myanmar and around the world, the Forum emphasized a shared interest in India as a secular, democratic republic. They highlighted the importance of maintaining India’s progressive vision, as envisioned by leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi.
The press release underscored the historical ties between postcolonial India and the Naga people, recounting the 1953 division of Naga lands by Prime Ministers Nehru and U Nu without the consent of the Naga people. The subsequent years witnessed a tumultuous relationship, marked by military invasion, armed resistance, ceasefires, and broken agreements.

The Forum expressed concern over recent developments, including the massacre of civilians in December 2021 and potential breaches of the Free Movement Regime agreement with Myanmar. They urged Rahul Gandhi to use his influence to address the Indo-Naga political problem, appealing for support in resuming peace negotiations and repealing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

Despite the challenges, the Global Naga Forum emphasized a spirit of reconciliation and peacemaking, appealing to Rahul Gandhi for leadership in resolving the longstanding issues. They called for support in preserving cultural ties across borders and maintaining respect for human rights and international law.
The press release concluded with solidarity for India as a secular, democratic republic, wishing Rahul Gandhi success in the remainder of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
