Main suspects in Chingtham Anand, SDPO Moreh Assassination Case Arrested

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested two main suspects behind the assassination of Late Chingtham Anand Singh, MPS, SDPO Moreh from Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh, Tengoupal District on Monday. The arrested suspects are Philip Khaikholal Khongsai, Son of (L) Marcus Khongsai of New Moreh Ward no 8 and Hemkholal Mate Son of (L) Onkholun Mate of K. Moulsang Village, Tengnoupal District.

While, protestors stormed security forces post in the border town on Monday evening demanding release of the arrested persons, a total curfew has been imposed in the entire Tengnoupal district to prevent any unwanted incidents by the authority.

It may be mentioned that Moreh SDPO, Chingtham Anand, was shot dead on October 31, 2023 while he was overseeing work on a new helipad in Moreh to be used as a landing pad for state forces.

Arrested Philip is an ex-serviceman, 14th Assam Rifles regiment (Knight no 4367423). He joined the service in 1999 and took pension in 2018. He is currently president of Moreh Youth Club and Execute Kuki Inpi Tengoupal, while Hemkholal is the chief of K Moulsang village and finance secretary of the Mate Tribe Union. They were arrested in possession of one pistol along with two live rounds, one Chinese hand grenade, ten live rounds of AK ammunitions and ten detonators with fuse. A case has been registered in this regard for investigation.

Manipur Police on Monday informed that two suspects were arrested at around 4:30 pm during a round patrolling of Manipur Police Special Commando Teams near Moreh College. The security personnel observed two suspected individuals who opened fire on vehicles of security personnel and ran into a cluster of houses. On being fired upon, the security forces immediately retaliated and cordoned off the suspected houses near Moreh College. During the operation, the two suspicious individual were chased and overpowered using minimum force and were detained for verification. On spot verification, they revealed their identities.

Meanwhile, displaced people from Moreh who are taking refuge at various relief camps took out protest demonstrations on Tuesday demanding stringent punishment for the arrested suspects.
