Agartala, Sep 27: In a landmark development for Northeast India, Tripura and Assam will benefit from Godrej Agrovet’s ambitious Rs 960 crore investment plan formalized through a memorandum of understanding with government authorities. The comprehensive project promises to revolutionize food processing infrastructure across five states, with particular emphasis on the Northeast corridor.

The non-binding memorandum of understanding was signed on Friday, September 26, between Godrej Agrovet Limited, one of India’s largest diversified agri-food businesses, and the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) on the sidelines of World Food India 2025.

According to the agreement, the company will establish state-of-the-art manufacturing and processing facilities alongside an upstream research and development center across Tripura, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

“The MoU is in line with our long-term strategy of strengthening our agri-food processing and distribution capabilities,” stated Sunil Kataria, CEO and Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet Limited.

He further emphasized that “by investing in upstream infrastructure and R&D, our aim is to create sustainable value across the supply chain while contributing to the upliftment of the ecosystem.”

The strategic partnership was formalized in the presence of Avinash Joshi, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and Rakesh Swami, Group President of Corporate Affairs at Godrej Industries Group. Meanwhile, the investment focuses specifically on the company’s Oil Palm and Pet Food business segments, positioning the Northeast region as a crucial component of India’s agricultural transformation.

“We are delighted to partner with Godrej Agrovet,” remarked Avinash Joshi during the signing ceremony. He added that “today’s MoU reaffirms our shared commitment to strengthening India’s agri-food ecosystem and advancing rural development goals.”
