Ukhrul, September 1: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya (NSCBAV), Shangshak, Ukhrul, known for its commitment to environmental conservation, has taken another significant step toward a greener future. As part of its ongoing “Green School” initiative, the institution has successfully planted over 500 saplings and 100 fully grown trees within the campus and surrounding community areas.

The plantation drive, carried out over the past year, saw the active participation of students, teachers, parents, and local community members. From flowering plants to shade-giving trees, the initiative aims not only to beautify the campus but also to contribute to cleaner air, richer biodiversity, and a healthier environment for generations to come.

School principal Chirmi Shimray emphasized the importance of environmental education, stating that education should not be confined to books and classrooms but should also focus on shaping responsible citizens who care for the planet. “Every sapling planted is a pledge for a better tomorrow,” she remarked.

The “Green School” project also features a waste segregation system, rainwater harvesting, and the use of solar power for part of the school’s energy needs. With these measures, NSCBAV aims to inspire other institutions to adopt proactive steps toward environmental sustainability.

In addition to planting over 600 plants and trees, the school also carried out a special plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ka Naam” campaign, during which 200 trees were planted by students along with their mothers. Each tree was dedicated to the name of a mother, symbolizing both environmental care and maternal love.

The initiative blended ecological responsibility with a heartfelt tribute to motherhood. As each sapling took root, it became a living symbol of nurturing, strength, and selflessness. The school highlighted that a tree and a mother share the same spirit — both give life, shelter, and nourishment — making the campaign both a gift to the environment and a way to honor mothers.
