Unidentified gunmen opened fire some shots at the house of a former MLA in Manipur’s Imphal West district after making a failed bomb attack on Tuesday night. No casualty was reported due to the incident. Former MLA Sapam Kunjakishor alias Keba was at home at the time of the attack, police source said.

Police as well as local sources said that the unidentified gunmen first lobbed a hand grenade at the house of the former MLA at Tera Sapam Leirak under Lamphel police station on Tuesday night, around 8 pm. As the grenade failed to explode, the gunmen opened fire some shots at the house, causing damages to the window panes of the house, the sources said.

Reports said that after attacking the house, the gunmen left the spot in a car.
Police who rushed to the spot after being informed called out bomb experts who defused the grenade safely, the sources said.

No armed outfit has so far owned the attack even as police suspect cadres of an armed group behind the attack.

Meanwhile, Lamphel police has registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify and trace the attackers, police said.
