Gunshots Fired at Children’s Home in Imphal West, No Injuries Reported

Imphal, Apr 9: A shocking incident unfolded at a children’s home in Imphal West district, Manipur, when gunshots rang out in the dead of night.

According to police reports, at around 1:40 am on Wednesday, a barrage of at least seven to eight gunshots was fired at the Children’s Home for Boys, located in Sagolband Meino Leirak.

CCTV footage from the scene which has been circulated on social media revealed that two masked assailants arrived at the premises and indiscriminately opened fire, sending ripples of fear and disbelief through the local community.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported among the boys or staff at the home.

The Children’s Home, managed by the United Social Development Association under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme of the Social Welfare Department, accommodates approximately 30 boys.

Upon receiving an urgent distress call, police quickly responded to the scene, registering a case and launching an investigation to track down the perpetrators.

The attack has stirred anger among local residents, who gathered outside the children’s home to stage a sit-in protest, condemning the gunfire.

The protesters voiced concerns over the safety of children in the area, citing the volatile environment that has followed the shooting.
