Lush and abundantly blessed with nature, Ukhrul stands tall with its picturesque landscapes; a cocoon of untrodden and unspoiled natural world; Ukhrul, truly a sight to behold, so entrancingly placed on the lap of Mother Nature. Notwithstanding the abundance in nature, is Ukhrul Town keeping its environment well? Are sustainability and environmental protection the talk of the town yet? What changes have sprung up from the 80’s and 90’s Ukhrul to the present day Ukhrul in regards to waste management, water scarcity and biodiversity conservation? Or are these a million dollar questions that the townspeople are left gaping with.
Over the years Ukhrul has seen changes in environmental aspects owing to global warming and climate change. These changes poses serious environmental threats to the ecosystem which may lead to biodiversity loss if not acted upon. Local organisations, governmental and non-governmental organisations working towards conservation of the environment is the need of the hour. Most non-profit and NGO groups have combined their environmental conservation project ideas with a focus on materially improving the most at-risk environmental issues. ENFOGAL is one such organisations in Ukhrul that is relentlessly working to grapple environmental concerns in the town.

What is ENFOGAL?
ENFOGAL: Environmental Force at Grass Root Level is a Movement for Environmental Conservation in Ukhrul initiated and established by a group of passionate youth from Ukhrul district to tackle urgent environmental challenges that require immediate intervention, Enfogal thrives to make the ecology better. Its key goal is to bring awareness to the mass in the region, especially Ukhrul Town, who remain unaware of the threats posed by waste mismanagement, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss. Through education, advocacy, and grassroots initiatives, Enfogal bridges this knowledge gap and promotes tangible action for lasting impact. By fostering a community-driven approach, Enfogal has launched innovative conservation projects that encourage local involvement and ensure environmental sustainability becomes a vital part of daily life.
Enfogal, the non-governmental organisation unfurled its wings in 2016 with its co-founders, Patrick Shangh and Yoyung Shaiza in the forefront aiming to protect Ukhrul’s mouldering environment. Since its inception, Shangh and Shaiza along with their team consisting of vibrant like-minded youths have been putting in constant effort for a sustainable environment in Ukhrul Town.

A Self-Sustaining Model: 2S Services
To ensure the continuity of its environmental projects, Enfogal operates 2S Services, a self-sustaining door-to-door garbage collection service. With a minimal charge, this initiative not only promotes responsible waste disposal but also generates funds that help sustain and expand Enfogal’s conservation efforts.
