Heroin seized in Khliehriat, Meghalaya

Shillong: Three persons including a woman were arrested along with over 500 grams of heroin from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya today.

District police chief, Jagpal Singh Dhanao informed that credible source information was received that an illegal consignment of narcotic drugs was being transported via a vehicle (Mahindra Bolero) from Silchar, Assam and proceeding towards Shillong.

Immediately, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) along with the officers and men of Ladrymbai Out Post, East Jaintia Hills district, Khliehriat set up a Naka and intercepted the vehicle at Ladrymbai, he said.

A proper search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of the independent witnesses and 51 soap cases containing yellowish or orange powder were found concealed in a hidden chamber inside the chassis of the vehicle, the police officer said.

He then informed that the suspected powder gave a positive result for heroin and the total net weight was found to be 411.71 gm.

Accordingly, the contraband was seized in the presence of the independent witnesses.

The three occupants including a lady have been arrested and a case has been registered under the NDPS Act.
